There are eleven students and 13 dogs. CCI has at least two dogs in mind for each person. Some of the dogs here are “leftovers” from the previous class. That doesn’t mean that they failed being placed. It means that the student wasn’t stellar enough to be placed with the dog. So, they get to go to the next class.
I originally wanted a Golden Retriever. Then I realized that’s because everyone wants a Golden Retriever. I really don’t want one, they look exceptionally high maintenance and not energetic enough for me.
Then I wanted Conner, a really cool Golden/Lab mix that Melanie Dutcher raised. This is what my house would look like:
Conner is here, but he isn’t in our class. He’s scheduled to be in the August class.
I finally decided on a BIG black lab mostly because Leibe and Sakai are really cool BIG black Labs. And Macy sold me on the cute of blackness. This is what my house will look like:
There are so many BIG black Labs, that I’m betting I’ll get one. I can’t tell the difference between the full bred Labs and the Golden/Lab cross breed. They all look like Labs to me. That might straighten itself out in an upcoming class.
Anyway, you are still dying to know what dog I get. So am I!
Here’s how it works. We will each work with multiple dogs tomorrow. The staff will take notes all day long then lock themselves in a room to decide which single one I get to train with on Wednesday. They reevaluate on Thursday and that night, I will be “Pre-Matched” with one dog. From then on, I have the dog in my room.
However, PRE-Matched is the key phrase. I may not go home with that dog. It just depends on the bonding we do. Patti asked us to let the Puppy Coordinator contact the Puppy Raiser to tell them that their dog has been pre-matched. If I tell you before that, it kind of kills the thrill for the Raiser.
So stay tuned because I’m dying to tell you all about each one…
