I Don't Believe In Valentine's Day

I hate Valentine's Day because of the commercialism like some people hate Christmas. I told J.D. that he never has to get me anything for Valentine's Day, and he has been grateful for the reprieve of figuring out what to get me for some random day that makes Hallmark and Target wealthy. And I don't get him anything either.

BUT...

Interweave Press in Loveland, Colorado does a cool thing with Valentines that I thought I'd do this year. If you send your 6x4 Valentine's postcards to Interweave Press, they pass them on to the post office and they will mail them for you.

You say, "Why?"

You'll get the Loveland, CO postmark(!) and a special poem printed on the back of your postcard.

Interweave Press is also having a Valentines fabric postcard contest, so I thought I'd kill the bird twice. Hopefully, I'll win a major award of quilting crap (yes, just about as nice as a leg lamp), and send J.D. a Valentine's Day card from Loveland.

The Love Shack!

The title of his fabric postcard is, "The Love Shack!" It is 6" x 4" (which is smaller than the length and width of my hand), and is handmade from very small scraps of fabric and some random hardware. It has a "LOVE" button on the back about the size of a quarter and the entire postcard is about 1/4" thick (except the button makes it about 1/2" in one corner). The border is tightly zigzagged varigated thread about 1/8" wide and sandwiches layers of fabric, batting and adhesive together.

When my lucky man gets it in the mail, he'll get a suggestive little message on the back that I'm pretty sure will lead to some action. The Loveland post office and my mailman get to read the message, but I'm not sharing it with you. Here is the front though.

Side note: It took me about 10 hours to make so I insured it for $125. I kind of hope it gets lost.

J.D. saw the postcard, but he doesn't know that he's getting in the mail and that there is a message on it.
