What's in a name anyway? Your identity? A description of who you are? It should feel right, right?
I'm name disabled. For the life of me I can't pronounce Tadaki correctly. It doesn't roll off my tongue. It just doesn't feel natural.
It is pronounced Ta Daw Key. I instinctively want to say Ta Daw Kaa, which makes me want to say Tatonka. You know, Tatonka, "buffalo" from Dances with Wolves.
Simi, Todd and Patti noticed that I had name challenges and probably "discussed" it behind closed doors but were sensitive enough to keep the discussions from me until the other day when I called him Tadaka for the fiftieth time. When I said, "Aaaaaah, I did it again!"
Simi: "Yeah, what's with that?
So I explained that my head wants to say Tadaka and even more so, Tatonka.
Then I found out that Seamus, an instructor calls Tadaki "Docker Dockerson." How close is that to Tadaki?
Joshua changed Finn's name to Phence. Yes, pronounced, "Fence." There is an Army connotation to it, but I'm still researching what that is.
Susan is having the same brain embolism as I am with Devi's name so she calls her, "Diva." Which is perfect because she is a petite little princess.
Besides, Donna changed her name to Mia and it worked out well for her. So, when I get home and I'm calling the Big Guy some random name, it's because a dog by any other name would smell as sweet.
I could really use your help coming up with the perfect nickname for him. PLEASE make suggestions by leaving a comment and I'll try it out for a while.

Hi Kelly. Mel here. Reading your latest entry every morning makes my day! You are right. There is something tongue twisting about a 3 syllable dog name. The too obvious nickname might be Taki. There's Todo and Taco, too! But, thinking of Tadaki's awesome chewing suggests Jaws, Chewbaca, Chewy (Chuy) or Grinder.
Will many in your class be returning for the August graduation?
Hey Kelly,
Me too, pulling up the blog multiple times a day to see what's new. Thanks for the work!
Bob says "Tonka", cuz' he's pulling you and a working boy, like a tonka truck.
I suggest "Doc". Sounds like one of the syllables of his name anyway.
My only suggestion with whatever name you choose ... make sure not to pick something that sounds like any of the commands. And, maybe not something that you'll be explaining to the world for the next decade ..
Keep on writing,
Utah
Tonka gets my vote! Way to go Bob.
I like Tonka, too. :)
I tried translating "pull" online to a couple different languages but nothing came up very interesting.
A list of famous sled dogs wasn't much help either:

I'm voting Tonka for the reasons listed above.
But he's your rose, and will smell great no matter what you name him... ;-)
Or Wonka ... always did love Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. It's not THAT far removed from TaDaki. And we have no life besides your blog, thank you very much!
