Holy Macaroni! and Other Crazy Obsessions

I stumbled across a friend's coupon blog today and spent WAY too many hours surfing through coupons, ads, and give-aways. At midnight, and after my 4th glass of wine, I came to my senses. Holy smoke! When does she and all the other frugal, "well-dressed-yet-spent-less" women have time to do all this money-saving clipping/organiing/driving-to-stores/shopping?

I'm thrilled to find all the deals, but now I'm totally freaked out and feel pressure (from the guilt Goddess that lives within me) to try to do it all. I really want the 10 free Progresso soups and the Betty Crocker cakes, Warm Delights (they are so worth the couponing), Chex mixes, toaster strudels, frosting, cookie mixes, crescents, Grands and cinnamon rolls. Yes, over 60 items for only $22.26!

And since Shanna (Barnhisel , -- love, Love, LOVE her) -- you can link to her website in my "Other Websites You Gotta See" section--can do it, then I MUST DO IT TOO mentality is freeeeeeking crazy because I'm still in denial that I spent over $40 on a bottle of wine. Ok...., full disclosure, I spent $40 several times on several bottles of wine. Anyway, I really want to be a couponer and save all kinds of cash, but then.... I'd be a couponer. Get it? [5th glass.]

So, after I just depleted a color printer cartridge printing coupons ($35), I guess I should get my money's worth and go to Albertson's and spend $22.26 (which would have cost me $156!!!), (it'll cost me $156 because I didn't do it right) on a whole lot of Pillsbury and Betty Crocker snacks, breads and cakes (which I shouldn't eat because I'm on another obsessive and failing diet).

WTH! WTF! Wake up! You are Kelly. Remember... the girl of least resistance whose motto is, "AS FEW TRANSFERS AS POSSIBLE!" How many car transfers does it take to save $125 on snack food?

That little rant just woke me up. I'm guessing that spending the $125 is well worth the 10 transfers it will take to get me in and out, and in and out, and in and out... of the car. I'll put most of the COLOR coupons in our coupon box, which we look at every week on the morning of our exciting Sunday grocery shopping "date". And maybe we will use them.

But I still might go to Albertson's in the morning to get my 10 cans of Progresso soup that will in turn pay for my next 10 cans of soup. I'll let you know if it's worth the exhaustion and if I did the couponing right.

ps. Digression [6th glass] -- How much money is a transfer worth? (Ooooh, I think I just found the question that justifies my existence in monetary worth.) If I do four car transfers a day and, for the ease of mathematics, let's say my salary equals $100 a day and each transfer is worth $25. If I accept that every transfer is worth $25, am I saving (because of the coupons) or spending $50 every time I go to the grocery store? I need your help here because I am getting better, but haven't excelled in Math yet. Am I ahead or behind the financial payout?

pss. Deacon, Princess and Jack are saying, "Who cares! Let's go to bed already!!!"

Good night and happy savings. Looking forward to Five Guys for Quilt night on Friday! (No coupons needed for satisfaction.)

Kelly you are a crack up! I will tell you that when I first started doing this I was totally overwhelmed and it took me forever to get organized and feel like I could do this. Now it's pretty easy and doesn't take too much time. In this case, I just put together a list before hand of what will be in each of my transactions and have my coupons for each one paper clipped together because otherwise I lose my mind, lose my children and who knows what else! Love you!
